School Meal Eligibility for Families impacted by the Federal Shutdown
Families who are being financially impacted by the federal shutdown have two options on obtaining
Free/ reduced meals for your children.
1. You may fill out an application and send it in to your child’s school secretary. Applications are
available on the schools website or from the schools secretaries.
2. You may apply for SNAP through the State Department of Social Services.
Flyer attached below. The Connecticut State Department of Education matches SNAP data with students attending Connecticut schools and through our Direct Certification process notifies schools of the students’ subsequent eligibility for free school meals.
Families who are approved for free or reduced meals based on their reduced income during a furlough period are encouraged to terminate their free/reduced price status should the economic hardship be remedied by a return to work and/or restoration of pay for the furlough period.
